What does "Sun Protection Factor" (SPF) mean?
Sun Protection Factor "i Protect" states the sun rays protection level of the lotion (Low SPF: from 6 to 10; Medium: from 15 to 20; High: from 25 to 50; Very High: 50+).It tells the amount of time you can lay in the sun without the risk of getting burnt or erythema. For example let’s say we know we can get burnt in 10 minutes: if we choose a sun lotion with 6 SPF multiply 10 times 6. The result is an SPF 6 will protect you 6 times more than if you do not wear any kind of lotion! Any lotion with SPF below 6 has been considered insufficient to protect the skin against the sun rays damages and consequently withdrawn from the market.
Choosing the right SPF
It depends on several factors. Besides the Protection Factor we must check on the label that the lotion we chose also protect us against the UVA rays which are the main cause of the premature ageing of the skin as well as true “attacks” to our immune system. The lotions do not only have to contrast the UV- B rays, ( they can cause dark spots, sunburns, erythema, wrinkles. Sun lotions should be chosen depending on your skin type. People with very fair skin, with freckles must obviously pay more attention when purchasing a tanning lotion since it has to have a high SPF level.
A gradual tan is more safe and more homogeneous, it prevents from the risk of sunburns and erythema. Follow our suggestions and you will get tanned protecting your skin without any problems!
